Hashem hardens the hearts of the wicked - in order to destroy them

ה׳ מקשה את לב הרשעים - למען השמידם | הרב שמואל אליהו

Our Chachamim said that the rashaim / wicked do not do teshuva /repent even at the entrance to gehinom / hell, sometimes even inside gehinom they do not do teshuva. The gates / shaarei gehinom are opened upon them, and they do not do teshuva. Why?  Is it because they are wicked… They do not care about their people?
וְאָֽבְדָה֙ חָכְמַ֣ת חֲכָמָ֔יו וּבִינַ֥ת נְבֹנָ֖יו תִּסְתַּתָּֽר
and the wisdom of his wise men shall be lost, and the understanding of his geniuses shall be hidden. (Yeshayahu 29:14) SEE FULL TEXT BELOW

In truth/ bemet, theres a pasuk that says that HaKadosh Baruch Hu, hardens their hearts. Thus says Yehoshua (Joshua), that Hashem hardened the hearts of the Canaanim:
כִּֽי־מֵאֵ֣ת יְהֹוָ֣ה | הָֽיְתָ֡ה לְחַזֵּ֣ק אֶת־לִבָּם֩ לִקְרַ֨את הַמִּלְחָמָ֚ה אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לְמַ֣עַן הַֽחֲרִימָ֔ם לְבִלְתִּ֛י הֱי֥וֹת לָהֶ֖ם תְּחִנָּ֑ה כִּ֚י לְמַ֣עַן הַשְׁמִידָ֔ם כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר צִוָּ֥ה יְהֹוָ֖ה אֶת־מֹשֶֽׁה:


For it was from Hashem to harden their hearts, (that they should come) against Israel in battle, that they might destroy them completely, and that they might have no favor, that they might destroy them as Hashem had commanded Moses. (Yehoshua 11:20)

This means that sometimes HaKadosh Baruch Hu, sees a person so רשע  wicked, so curseארור  , coarse גס /  Hashem hardens his heart so that he will insist. He will insist out of foolish pride מגאווה מטופשת.

Why, in order to destroy him so that he will not have a plea, so that he will not be able to rise up again later and return to his wickednessת

And there he hardens his heart ושם מקשה את ליבו  so that he will be crushed so that he will not remain. He says to him, " שריד ופלית A relic and a fragment, Kein Yehi Ratzon May it be!" Amen and amen.

חכמינו אמרו שרשעים אפילו על פתח הגיהנום לא עושים תשובה לפעמים גם בתוך הגיהנום לא עושים תשובה נפתח עליהם שערי גיהנום לא עושים תשובה למה כי הם רשעים לא אכפת להם מהעם שלהם א עבדה חכמה מחכמיו ונבנת נבנה תסתר בינת נבנה תסתר אבל באמת יש פסוק שאומר שלפים הקדוש ברוך הוא מקשה את ליבם כך אומר יהושע שהקדוש ברוך הוא הקשה את ליבם של הקנענים למען השמידם לבלתי היות להם תחינה זאת אומרת לפעמים הקדוש ברוך הוא רואה אדם כל כך רשע כל כך ארור כל כך א גס השם מקשה את ליבו שיתעקש תעקש מגאווה מטופשת

 למה? למען השמידו שלא תהיה לו תחינה שלא יוכל לקום עוד פעם אחר כך ולחזור לרשע שלו ושם מקשה את ליבו כדי שנכוש אותו שלא ישאר אומר לו שריד ופלית יהי רצון כך יהיה אמן ואמן




14 Therefore, I will continue to perform obscurity to this people, obscurity upon obscurity, and the wisdom of his wise men shall be lost, and the understanding of his geniuses shall be hidden.
                        ידלָכֵ֗ן הִנְנִ֥י יוֹסִ֛ף לְהַפְלִ֥יא אֶת־הָעָם־הַזֶּ֖ה הַפְלֵ֣א וָפֶ֑לֶא וְאָֽבְדָה֙ חָכְמַ֣ת חֲכָמָ֔יו וּבִינַ֥ת נְבֹנָ֖יו תִּסְתַּתָּֽר:

15Woe to those who think deeply to hide counsel from Hashem, and their deeds are in the dark. And they said, "Who sees us and who knows us?"              
טוה֛וֹי הַמַּֽעֲמִיקִ֥ים מֵֽיהֹוָ֖ה לַסְתִּ֣ר עֵצָ֑ה וְהָיָ֚ה בְמַחְשָׁךְ֙ מַ֣עֲשֵׂיהֶ֔ם וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מִ֥י רֹאֵ֖נוּ וּמִ֥י יֹֽדְעֵֽנוּ:

16Shall your perversion be regarded like the potter's clay אִם־כְּחֹ֥מֶר הַיֹּצֵ֖ר? Shall the thing made say of him who made it, "He did not make me," and the impulse say to the One Who formed it, "He does not understand"?          
            טזהַ֨פְכְּכֶ֔ם אִם־כְּחֹ֥מֶר הַיֹּצֵ֖ר יֵֽחָשֵׁ֑ב כִּֽי־יֹאמַ֨ר מַֽעֲשֶׂ֚ה לְעֹשֵׂ֙הוּ֙ לֹ֣א עָשָׂ֔נִי וְיֵ֛צֶר אָמַ֥ר לְיֹֽצְר֖וֹ לֹ֥א הֵבִֽין:

17Indeed, in a short time, the Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be regarded as a forest.            יזהֲלֹא־עוֹד֙ מְעַ֣ט מִזְעָ֔ר וְשָׁ֥ב לְבָנ֖וֹן לַכַּרְמֶ֑ל וְהַכַּרְמֶ֖ל לַיַּ֥עַר יֵֽחָשֵֽׁב:

18And on that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and out of the obscurity and out of darkness shall the eyes of the blind see.       
            יחוְשָֽׁמְע֧וּ בַיּֽוֹם־הַה֛וּא הַחֵֽרְשִׁ֖ים דִּבְרֵי־סֵ֑פֶר וּמֵאֹ֣פֶל וּמֵחֹ֔שֶׁךְ עֵינֵ֥י עִוְרִ֖ים תִּרְאֶֽינָה:

19And those who suffered shall increase their joy in Hashem and the impoverished people shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
                        יטוְיָֽסְפ֧וּ עֲנָוִ֛ים בַּֽיהֹוָ֖ה שִׂמְחָ֑ה וְאֶבְיוֹנֵ֣י אָדָ֔ם בִּקְד֥וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל יָגִֽילוּ:

20For the tyrants have ended and the scornful have been destroyed, and all those eager to commit violence shall be cut off.      
            ככִּֽי־אָפֵ֥ס עָרִ֖יץ וְכָ֣לָה לֵ֑ץ וְנִכְרְת֖וּ כָּל־שֹׁ֥קְדֵי אָֽוֶן:

21Those who cause man to sin by a word, and him who reproves in the gate they trap, and they mislead the righteous through fraud.
            כאמַֽחֲטִיאֵ֚י אָדָם֙ בְּדָבָ֔ר וְלַמּוֹכִ֥יחַ בַּשַּׁ֖עַר יְקֹשׁ֑וּן וַיַּטּ֥וּ בַתֹּ֖הוּ צַדִּֽיק:

22Therefore, so said the Lord to the House of Jacob, Who redeemed Abraham, "Now Jacob shall not be ashamed, and now his face shall not pale.                כבלָכֵ֗ן כֹּֽה־אָמַ֚ר יְהֹוָה֙ אֶל־בֵּ֣ית יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב אֲשֶׁ֥ר פָּדָ֖ה אֶת־אַבְרָהָ֑ם לֹֽא־עַתָּ֚ה יֵבוֹשׁ֙ יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב וְלֹ֥א עַתָּ֖ה פָּנָ֥יו יֶֽחֱוָֽרוּ:

23For, when he sees his children, the work of My hands, in his midst, who shall make holy My name, and they shall make holy the Holy One, Yaakov, and Elokei Yisrael they shall revere.                      כגכִּ֣י בִ֠רְאֹתוֹ יְלָדָ֞יו מַֽעֲשֵׂ֥ה יָדַ֛י בְּקִרְבּ֖וֹ יַקְדִּ֣ישׁוּ שְׁמִ֑י וְהִקְדִּ֙ישׁוּ֙ אֶת־קְד֣וֹשׁ יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב וְאֶת־אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל יַֽעֲרִֽיצוּ:

24And those of straying spirit shall know bina / understanding, and grumblers shall learn instruction.    
            כדוְיָֽדְע֥וּ תֹֽעֵי־ר֖וּחַ בִּינָ֑ה וְרֽוֹגְנִ֖ים יִלְמְדוּ־לֶֽקַח:
